Participation in the 2026 Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on World Heritage Cities and Climate Action in Kyoto, Japan

From March 7 to March 9, 2026, the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on World Heritage Cities and Climate Action was held in Kyoto, Japan.

The conference brought together heritage managers and local government officials responsible for World Heritage conservation and climate action in World Heritage Cities across the Asia-Pacific region, along with representatives of heritage agencies, relevant international organizations, and experts in the fields of cultural heritage conservation and climate action.
The Hội An Center for the Conservation of World Cultural Heritage delegated Mr. Phan Văn Quang, Deputy Director of the Center, to attend the conference and deliver a presentation.

The conference was organized to share research results, strengthen cooperation, and enhance capacity, while seeking feasible solutions to improve climate resilience in the context of heritage cities. Key topics of the conference included: exchange of knowledge regarding local practices, challenges, and initiatives in climate change adaptation; identification of urgent and long-term needs, existing gaps, and potential solutions to guide future cooperation and support activities; strengthening capacity related to climate change response, particularly through the application of core contents of the Climate Action Toolkit currently under development.
Participation in the conference provided an opportunity for the Center to exchange information and gain practical experience from experts, researchers, and managers of World Cultural Heritage sites. It also contributed to strengthening cooperative relationships and improving capacity in identifying feasible solutions to enhance resilience and responses to climate change, thereby supporting the effective conservation and promotion of the values of the Hội An Ancient Town World Cultural Heritage site.
