Hội An Ancient Town is not only distinguished by its unique architectural heritage system, but also by its rich repository of intangible cultural heritage, which reflects the diverse and enduring spiritual life of the local community across many centuries. In recent years, various forms of intangible cultural heritage in Hội An have been documented by heritage management and professional agencies for nomination to the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. To date, Hội An has had eight elements inscribed, further affirming the historical and cultural depth as well as the distinctive identity of this land.

With the aim of introducing the intangible cultural heritages in Hội An that have been officially inscribed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, as well as providing reliable information to raise public awareness of heritage safeguarding and to honour the historical and cultural values of these heritages, the Hội An Center for the Conservation of World Cultural Heritage is currently compiling the manuscript for the book National Intangible Cultural Heritages in Hội An.

The book is structured into three chapters: Chapter 1: An overview of intangible cultural heritage in Hội An; Chapter 2: An introduction to the National Intangible Cultural Heritages in Hội An, including Kim Bồng carpentry, Thanh Hà pottery, the craft of making bamboo and coconut-leaf houses in Cẩm Thanh, the craft of weaving hammocks from ngô đồng [sea hibiscus] fibre in Cù Lao Chàm, Trà Quế vegetable cultivation, Thanh Châu swiftlet harvesting, the Nguyên Tiêu Festival [First Full Moon Festival], and the Mid-Autumn Festival in Hội An; Chapter 3: An assessment of the current situation, risks and challenges, along with several orientations and solutions for safeguarding and promoting the National Intangible Cultural Heritages in Hội An in the present context.

The book is expected to be printed and released on the occasion of Vietnamese Cultural Heritage Day (23 November) and the 27th anniversary of Hội An Ancient Town’s inscription as a World Cultural Heritage Site (4 December 1999 - 4 December 2026).
