Collecting data related to folk knowledge about the sea and islands of Cu Lao Cham

Cu Lao Cham is an island cluster located 15km from the coast of Hoi An with 8 islands forming a screen protecting Cua Dai - Hoi An.

      Cu Lao Cham is a land of special geographical - economic - cultural - political value. Besides, the biodiversity and richness of tangible cultural heritage and intangible cultural heritage also create special values for this island cluster. In the treasure trove of indigenous heritage, folk knowledge about the sea and islands plays a very important role. This is the result of the process of behaving and living with nature through many generations of residents.       With the purpose of collecting data to propose solutions to preserve and promote in the future, Hoi An Center for Cultural Heritage Management and Preservation will collect and evaluate various types of heritage related to folk knowledge about the islands of Cu Lao Cham in this April.

      The folk knowledge expected to be collected and investigated includes: Knowledge about using forest materials to serve local life; knowledge about management, exploitation and use of water resources; knowledge of terrain, weather and climate awareness; knowledge of traditional medicine; culinary knowledge; folk knowledge about seafood exploitation; folk knowledge about collecting bird’s nest in Cu Lao Cham.
