Friday - 29/03/2024 05:57
The ancient water system at Cu Lao Cham (Cham Island) is understood as a combination of water sources in farming areas (on hillsides and foothills) and natural freshwater sources associated with daily use (water from the ground and stream water, created by building banks to prevent water and digging drainage ditches).

This ancient water system is very valuable in terms of history, culture and natural ecology. This is also one of the unique resources in Cu Lao Cham and Hoi An.

With the agreement of the Hoi An City People's Committee, Hoi An Center for Cultural Heritage Management and Preservation will coordinate with relevant agencies including: Mixed Battalion 70 (under the Military Command of Quang Nam province), Cu Lao Cham Border Guard Station, Management Board of Cu Lao Cham Marine Protected Area, Tan Hiep Commune People's Committee, Hoi An Science and History Association and Quang Nam Folk Arts Association to conduct surveys of the ancient water systems in Cu Lao Cham to evaluate the status and propose appropriate solutions to preserve and promote them in the near future.

The survey will take place in many phases, the first phase lasting from March 19 to 22, 2024. The survey will get notes, photos, films, and maps for the outstanding features and elements of ancient water systems.

The survey of ancient water systems in Cu Lao Cham contributes to building an archival database, thereby serving the task of introducing, promoting as well as proposing solutions to restore, preserve and promote these systems in Cu Lao Cham.
