Regarding functions: The Center has the function of advising the People's Committee of Hoi An city on state management of Hoi An Cultural Heritage; conducting scientific research to serve the conservation and promotion of the value of Cultural Heritage in Hoi An city; relic restoration; project management; preservation and restoration of artifacts; interpretation, education and services at museums/relics; communication and foreign affairs; conservation consultancy; community cooperation; coordination in state management of the Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve.
Regarding tasks:
- Manage, preserve, embellish, and promote the values of Hoi An Cultural Heritage; closely coordinate with local authorities and sectors to organize propaganda and mobilize people to participate in heritage preservation work, etc.
- Preside and directly advise the People's Committee of Hoi An city on performing the functions of state management for construction permits, restoration works in the Ancient Town, etc.
- Deploy programs, plans and projects in the field of preserving and restoring in Hoi An Ancient Town, world heritage site; consult, survey, design, supervise construction works, manage and implement historical - cultural monument works according to the provisions of laws, etc.
- Manage museums and relics assigned by the city government; provide guidance for visitors; organize related services/experiencing activities serving the purposes of visiting, research, and studying at museums and relics, etc.
- Conduct scientific research, collect document, digitize for archive on tangible and intangible cultural heritage etc.
- Develop training programs, aiming to improve the professional qualifications of civil servants and workers working in the sectors of cultural heritage preservation and promotion;
- Coordinate with relevant agencies at many levels to appraise and submit to competent authorities for approval of plans, projects, and socio-economic development plans in the core area and the buffer zone of the world heritage site according to current regulations, etc.
- Implement international cooperation programs, especially with UNESCO; seek cooperation and assistance from international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and foreign individuals, etc.
