Hoi An plays the role of connecting trade and commerce with localities along the Thu Bon river system from the riverside – coastal areas to the mountainous regions as well as the role of linking trade and commerce between Quang region and other domestic and international regions. It has created the prosperity of the Hoi An trading port in particular and Quang region, Cochinchina in general in the history.

In order to build a database on the history and culture of Hoi An, especially on the Quang Nam local markets related to Hoi An, thereby identifying the trading network and the role of Hoi An in the relationship with areas/regions in Quang Nam in the history. In 2022, Hoi An Center for Cultural Heritage Management and Preservation has made a plan to survey Quang Nam local markets related to Hoi An. The work has been implemented since April 2022 with the main content of investigating, surveying and collecting documents on the trade relationship between local markets related to Hoi An.
Base on the survey results, Hoi An Center will process to create a database for archiving, scientific research, propaganda and promotion of history and culture of Hoi An, especially creating material resources for the contents of the project to establish a thematic museum “The Route of incense and local products in Hoi An, Quang Nam”.
