Organizing the session of community consultation for the restoration of the Nghia Trung Tomb (Cam An ward)

On the morning of August 23, 2024, at the office of Cam An Ward People's Committee, Hoi An Center for Cultural Heritage Management and Preservation coordinated with local agencies to organize a session of community consultation for the restoration of the Nghia Trung Tomb, Thinh My quarter, Cam An ward. Local elders and people living near the area of relic and members of relic management board had attended the session.

Nghia Trung Tomb is considered as a shrine that has unique cultural and historical values in Cam An ward. This is a place to worship ancestors, fallen soldiers, people who died without relatives, and people whose graves were lost. In 2003, budget from Hoi An’s government and contribution of local people helped the tomb restored significantly. Over 20 years, due to the impact of many unfavorable factors, some parts of the relic have now seriously degraded. Moreover, the projects of upgrading the road and constructing surrounding areas have caused the relic to become lower and frequently flooded. This affected the technical condition and solemnity of the relic, so restoration work is extremely necessary.At the consultation session, local people had many open and frank discussions about the history - culture, architecture, especially the restoration plan of this relic. Attendants basically agreed on the restoration plan proposed by Hoi An Center, thereby creating more scientific data for the Center to complete the restoration plan to ensure accuracy and effectiveness.
Consulting local communities, getting opinions from relevant organizations and individuals in the process of cultural heritage conservation is a regular task that Hoi An Center has implemented very carefully and methodically. This helps the preparation as well as the implementation of the restoration work ensure a scientific basis and achieve good results.
