Cham Islands are known by many names in the past, such as Sanfu – Fùlaw, Pulociam, Pulaocham, Polochiam Pello, Chiem Bat Lao,Tiem Bich La; located 15 kilometers offshore from Hoi An and consist of seven small islands: Hon Lao, Hon Dai, Hon Mo, Hon Tai, Hon Nom, Hon La and Hon Kho.
The climate of Cham Islands is always fresh. The fauna, flora and seafood here are very abundant. Especially, salangane's nests are the valuable resources. Cham Islands are one of the places having the valuable coral reef of Vietnam and the region. Natural scenery is very beautiful, poetic and unique, including Tinh Stream (Love Stream), Ong Stream, Hon Chong island, Hon Kho island, Ba Cave… At the edge of the islands, there are many ideal beaches with white sand and cool water, for example Bai Ong, Bai Bim, Bai Chong, Bai Bac.
Hon Lao is the biggest island where many people are now living. Here are many archaeological relics relating to the residence by people over 3000 years ago; at the same time, they proved the trading exchange with countries of Near Middle East, India, China, Southeast Asia over 1000 years.The Irrigation system relating to cropping technique, farming of the former residents here has been found.
25 religious architectural and artistic monuments which date from the 18th century to the early 20th century are distributed along the western slope of Hon Lao, Bai Lang, Bai Huong with a treasure of abundant folklore such as: living, behaviour, cuisine, customs, literature, performance,… which reserved well. All of the above demonstrate the historical-cultural depth of the Cham Islands.
Besides, with natural landscape and ecosystem diversity, the Cham Islands are worthy of the unique tourism destination of culture and sea island in the overall tour of Hoi An Ancient Town in Central Vietnam.
